High School

8th-12th graders. No prior experience or existing team required! While attending every practice is preferred, it’s not mandatory. Regattas take place both locally in the Bay Area and in Southern California. Comfort in the water is a must.

Tryouts will be held . These are designed to allow new sailors to get a feel for the sport and see how practices are run. As well as allow the coaches to assess sailors’ levels for the season. Following the try-outs, coaches will assign sailors to Intro, JV2, JV1, and Varsity based on which program best suits each sailor’s growth and development. Assignment may also depend on the depth of a team. Depending on skill level and depth, one JV team may be equivalent to another school’s varsity team. See program descriptions below. All returners will be notified of their level prior to the season beginning.

  • Ages 8th grade- 12th grade
  • Boats provided (Fj’s)
    • Combination of High School and 420 Development
    • Combination of High School and 420 Race Team
JV Team

Our JV program aims to develop and refine sailors’ skills to prepare them to compete at the Varsity level. Focus will be on advanced boat handling techniques, sail trim, and understanding the fundamentals of racing. Practices will have a skill-specific theme each week to assist sailors in continued improvement in all aspects of their sailing. Sailors should come to practice open-mindedness with a willingness to learn and foster a collaborative environment. JV sailors are welcome skippers at NorCal one-day events, BAYS events, and crew at Varsity practices and regattas.

JV Team will have practice Monday and Tuesday from 3:30 p.m.- 7:00 p.m.

Varsity Team

The varsity program aims to assist teams in competing at a high level at NorCal and PCISA events throughout the year. All varsity sailors are expected to hold themselves and their teams to a high standard; sportsmanship, attendance, and competition of assignments will be strictly enforced. It is an expectation that sailors come to practice with a high sense of competitiveness, urgency, and respect for teammates and coaches. Practices will be focused on racing, and sailors will be ranked on performance-based metrics to assist development and determine regatta selection. Sailors should have the drive to study outside of practice and are expected to show growth in all areas of their game. Varsity sailors are expected to occasionally attend JV practices to mentor less experienced team members to foster a more robust team culture and accelerate skill development.

Varsity Team will have practice Thursday and Friday from 3:30 p.m.- 7:00 p.m.
