- Boats are provided for all introductory level classes and High School Race Team. Boat ownership needed for Opti and 420 Race Teams after your first season.
- Professional coaching
- All sailors must wear a US Coast Guard approved life-jacket
- Safety boat is present for all sessions
- Cancellation Policy: $50 service charge for cancellation prior to first date of class. Those not removed from the wait list due to over-subscription will be refunded class fees.

Learn-to-Sail
Learn the basics of sailing while developing skills to prepare for sailing with others at PYSF and in the Bay Area. While no experience is necessary, sailors must be comfortable in the water while wearing a life jacket. Boats provided (Cubes). Answers to FAQ can be found here. Ages 8-11. *Some kids pick up the sport quickly, while others may repeat learn-to-sail multiple times before advancing to Learn 2.0. Your instructors will update you on the sailor’s progress towards the end of the course. This class does not compete in regattas.*
Learn 2.0 (Intro-to-Race)
For sailors with less than a year sailing in Cubes/Optimists (or equivalent), who understand the basics of sailing and want an introduction to racing skills. This class is great for the sailor who has completed learn-to-sail but needs a refresher on proper boathandling and an introduction to the basics of racing. Boats provided (Cubes). Opti Green Team
For sailors who have completed Intro-to-Race or equivalent and seek to refine their racing skills in a single handed boat. Ages 8-13. Every Tuesday February 21-April 25. Cost: $1200 (PYSF Scholarships are available as part of PYSF’s mission to be a community sailing program that teaches sailing regardless of ability to pay. Opti Development Team

Opti Champ Team

FJ Intro (11-13yo)
Learn the basics of sailing while developing skills to prepare for sailing with others at PYSF and in the Bay Area. This class serves as an introduction to double-handed sailing and Fleet Racing. While no experience is necessary, sailors must be comfortable in the water while wearing a life jacket. Ages 11-13. Boats provided. Saturdays Apr 22-May 27. Cost: $750. Keelboat 101
Learn the basics of sailing a keelboat! This class serves as an introduction to keelboat sailing using Ideal 18s. Sailors will be learning basic maneuvering on a keelboat, including spinnakers. Class culminates with the first Friday Fun Series of the season! Sailors must have taken FJ Intro (or equivalent) and are confident skippering smaller boats prior to taking this class. Boats provided. Ages 13+. Fridays Mar 24-April28.Cost: $750. 420 Intermediate
Sailors who have completed FJ Intro, 420 Intro Summer Course, or equivalent, but not quite ready for 420 Race Team practice. Looking to improve trapeze work, spinnaker handling, skippering and crewing. No partner needed. Boats provided. Ages: 13-18. This class precedes invitation to the 420 Race Team. C420 Race Team
C420 Race Team members will be practicing twice a week and are expected to participate in local, Bay Area regattas. Regattas outside of the Bay Area will be coordinated with team coaches with an additional cost of $100/sailor/day. (Midwinters in Florida for example). Practice is Wednesdays and Sundays. Most sailors will be doing BOTH C420 Race Team and High School Race Team to further enhance their skill set. Cost: $1500. *Sailors must have completed 420 Intermediate and have the approval of the coaches and Director before enrolling in this class. Pairings for regattas and practice are done by the coaching staff and coordinated through the sailors.
High School Race Team
8th-12th graders. No experience needed. No pre-existing team needed! Attendance at every practice is preferred, but not mandatory. Regattas happen within the Bay Area, as well as throughout CA. Must be comfortable in the water. Boats provided. Answers to FAQ can be found here. Practice is Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays Jan 31-Apr 28. Cost: $1200. Many sailors will be doing BOTH High School Race Team and another class. Cost for a combo classes:
*Regatta participation is based on ability level and team size. No Team? Sail for the season, keep recruiting friends, and continue learning and meeting new friends from the Bay Area! Two kids from the same school? You can attend most local HS events. Team of 4+ kids from the same school? Based on ability level, you can attend all events up and down the coast! Sailors that enroll as 8th graders are assigned by the Director to the school they plan on attending for the following year. Pairings for regattas are done by the coaching staff and coordinated through the Parent Reps for each school.
